Despite many poor reviews, this thing is simple and I got a better aim with my 5LNB dish than the pro installation guy got on our other 3LNB dish. It doesn’t tell you which satellite. DirecTV Forum - Best Meter for Directv SWM Installation - Hi. I was more concerned about whether the analog meters would work with the SWM LNB's and whether you need the ASL-1 alignment unit. But I will go with your suggestion if you are sure it applies to my receiver and LNB. Receiving guide data 0% if you don't have a satellite signal. I want to query this forum to let me know each of your recommendations for a signal meter that is not a cheap dial meter (I have one of those) but is affordable for an RV enthusiast like me. I'm looking for a signal meter that can recognize and identify locking into sat 101, 99 and 103 at least (interested only in DirecTV sats). My dish is a Slimline SL3 LNB. If programming the meter is too difficult, I'm not interested in that meter. It has to be friendly enough for a do it yourself and a non professional like me. Price wise, something not more than $300. Any suggestions? Thanks in anticipation of reading this post. Have a great day!!!! Zonic2001, I paid about $229 for my Accutrac III meter and thought I got it from Solid Signal(the link below to Solid Signal shows it as discontinued). It was 'specifically designed' for the Slimline 5LNB(which is my RV dish and 'picks up' the 99, 101, 103, 110 & 119 birds). If you do some Googling, I'm sure you can find one available somewhere. Even though it is 'designed for' the SL5, I'm certain it would work fine for the Slimline SL3 LNB HD dish(it specifically shows the 99, 101 & 103 birds). I am VERY happy with my meter and it has taken me from 30min-1hour setups when camping to 15 mins. Which is definitely tolerable. I would recommend it for any RV'ers wanting to do a tripod mounted Slimline to get DirecTV HD when camping. Link so you can get a little more info about the meter follows: P.S. Found one for $249 see link below: Also, here's a link to the manual for it: http://www.acutrac.tv/PDF/Acutrac%20III%20c.pdf. What's wrong with just using the Receiver's built-in meters? That's always worked just fine for me. Since you are getting offensive, I'll answer that one with one question, why DTV techs don't use the receiver strength meter to do set ups? I'm just getting information to be more knowledgeable not to create conflicts in here as you seem to do by your last post. If the receiver works for you then I'm happy for you. Sorry I asked. Meter Installer JobsGood luck in your endeavors. DirecTV Techs use a meter because they do several installations EVERY day. Those of us that only do this a few times a year can easily get by using the Receiver's built-in meters. I have a small portable LCD TV that I can use outside with a UPS battery backup to power the TV, DirecTV Receiver and SWM while I install and align the dish. Much cheaper than a dedicated meter.
